Sovol SV06 vs SV06 Plus

Last Updated: Mat 14th, 2023

The Sovol SV06 shakes up the playing field by intruding a reliable all-metal hotend printer at a low price point. It is a viable entrance into the 3D printing world, and it has the ability to use filament like PC and Nylon.

Overall, we recommend the SV06 for most users. It is best bang for buck for getting into high-temperature materials. Pending its release, the SV06 Plus outperforms only on build volume.

The SV06 has reports of issues with flexible filament.

Sovol SV06 and SV06 Plus

  • The main attraction of the Sovol SV06 platform is the direct drive extruder with an all-metal hotend for printing high-temperature filament (up to 300°C).
  • What filaments can they print at 300°C? PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PP, Nylon and flexibles like TPU. However, there have been some reports that the SV06 struggles with flexible filament.
  • The SV06 and the SV06 both have a dual z-axis.
  • Both printers use a PEI coated spring steel sheet as the print surface.
  • Both printers use an induction probe for auto-leveling.
  • Both printers can be connected locally via microSD Card and networked over USB.

Final Thoughts

Pending the release of the SV06 Plus, the deciding factor for most users will be on the build volume that they desire.

If this is your first printer, we recommend downloading one of the slicers and throwing in some STLs to get a feel for the build volumes.

Fixing the flexible filament issue with the extruder (hopefully), the touch screen, and the filament runout sensor on the SV06 Plus is nice but it is not the selling point of the printer. Both of these are cheaper options to a Prusa MK3S or a Qidi X-Plus for printing high-temperature materials.
