About Silica Gel

4D Filtration SilicaFusion combines our acid-free activated carbon with granular and color-indicating silica gel. This blend offers localized moisture control, enhancing both the effectiveness and lifespan of the carbon, while also protecting filament.

When To Use SilicaFusion Carbon:
SilicaFusion Carbon is particularly useful when printing filament that is sensitive to moisture, as it lowers the humidity level inside an enclosure.

SilicaFusion Carbon also improves the lifespan and effectiveness of the activated carbon by capturing moisture and depositing it in the silica gel, since the silica gel holds more moisture per unit weight.

How To Use SilicaFusion Carbon:
For optimal results, use SilicaFusion Carbon only in recirculating setups. If used for extraction the silica gel will rapidly become saturated with moisture.

SilicaFusion Filament Recommendations:
SilicaFusion Carbon is recommended for use with hygroscopic filament such as: Nylon, PVA, TPU, and PC. SilicaFusion is also useful for keeping moisture away from more common filament like PLA, PETG, and ABS as moisture can cause print defects.

Silica Gel FAQ

A recirculation setup is one where the air that is being filtered doesn't leave the enclosure. This may be done by having the air cleaner inside the enclosure, or by using duct to direct air from the enclosure, into the air cleaner, then back into the enclosure.

An extraction setup is one where the air is pulled outside of the enclosure through the air cleaner, while air in the room enters the enclosure through gaps. A gap in the enclosure is necessary to allow airflow; otherwise, the fan will be trying to pull a vacuum.
